Identity crisis is a developmental event that occurs when a person starts to doubt their sense of self and their role in society, which may result in anxiety and depression, and cause problems in every area of one’s life. There has been an increasing need in the field of mental health to train therapists to work with a diverse population of people. When seeking therapy to address such specific conflicts, as within the areas of racial or gender diversity, it is very important to find a provider who specializes in these areas. In the case when conflicts around race or gender are present, therapy is focused on resolving these underlying issues while also managing the symptoms that arise as a result of their presence.
